I have an MTH train layout. My plan is to purchase a Lionel Legacy 990 controller and a Legacy Vision Line engine, so I will not be operating Lionel stuff through MTH DCS.

My layout is set up with a 500 MTH brick connected to the AUX power input of an MTH TIU (REV L) and then hooked up to 3 separate MTH 750 bricks connected to 3 separate input channels. All 3 channels are now fixed voltage channels and all three channels are hooked up to three separate track loops from the output channels of the TIU. The track loops are connected to each other via switch tracks. All bricks are in phase, and I haven’t experienced any problems when crossing trains from loop to loop. All switch tracks are properly set up and, here again, no electrical problems when crossing trains from loop to loop. I want to set up a Legacy 990 control system to control Lionel Legacy Vision Line engines to run along with my MTH stuff, on all three loops. However, if it's a simpler setup, I can only use one of the loops for Lionel engines.

All that said, can I, after hooking up the Legacy antenna and power cord (that will eventually plug into a wall outlet), hook up the Legacy black track power wire directly to the three separate TIU fixed channel negative DCS out ports, (either jumped wires or separate wires?), will this simple setup work? I viewed a video on this simple method when running Legacy on only one fixed channel of an MTH TIU. It seems that it should work on 3 fixed channels in the same way? As stated, I only plan on running one Legacy Vision Line steam engine and want to use all of Legacy’s attributes for Vision Line steam engines. If I should ever purchase another Lionel engine, I will only purchase Legacy Vision Line products, so I will never operate Lionel stuff through the MTH DCS.

I have Barry Broskowitz’ “The DCS O Gauge Companion” publication and just purchased/ downloaded the 3rd edition “DCS Companion of this terrific and informative publication. I’m sure all the answers to my questions are in there, I’m just seeking any thoughts from Forum members, caveats etc.

Thanks to all in advance for any interest you may have on this topic, Lou

It does seem really simple. Almost too simple. I was just concerned about whether I should place a jumper wire to all three fixed negative output/commons channels on the TIU, or would it be better to to send three separate wires from the Legacy command to the three separate negative/commons loops? It doesn't seem to matter. I think I'll go with the track/negative connections, and test them one at a time. Thanks much for your quick and thorough response to my question. Best regards, Lou
