I posted a pic of my attic layout on MartyR’s “Garage or Attic for Storage” thread and RoyBoy asked to see a few more.  Rather than highjack MartyR’s thread, I thought I would start a new one.  So here are some pics.  I started it in the mid 80s.  The layout is 20’ X 20’ in the attic.  In 2017 I added a staging area in a 7’ X 10’ room on the third floor.  For a number of years, it was idle.  Since 2010, most of it has been redone (track lifted and re-laid, scenery, etc).

Do you have an attic layout?  Let’s see some pics.

Well, this isn't mine, but I couldn't help sharing what is probably the finest attic layout in existence- at least if you are a tinplate fan. ( photos by Herbert Alfred Mayer). This the layout of Chuck Brasher.

My rekindled interest in Lionel was ignited by photos of this layout in Model Railroader back in the mid-eighties when they did an article a month on tinplate (before CTT and when OGR was still OSR I think).Screen Shot 2020-03-22 at 10.47.22 AMScreen Shot 2020-03-22 at 10.45.34 AMScreen Shot 2020-03-22 at 10.44.55 AMScreen Shot 2020-03-22 at 10.43.03 AMScreen Shot 2020-03-22 at 10.42.43 AM

It's beautiful and I love the natural wood ceiling and the wood roof supports. Thank you for the pix.

My attic layout has been expanded 5 times over the past 23 years, and now occupies the entire attic. Easier to ask for a little more space, than an entire room!

Twice around the room layout, with upper level shown in green. Closet at the top of the layout, between Ruth and Midway hides the very non-prototypical track work, where upward and downward tracks cross each other. (the black dot is a 4" water vent pipe)

In the closet, the track work changes levels in two directions, and is quite "unsightly". Signals will tell you if you are clear to enter the closet, and what route the switches are set for.

Dormant since 2010 health issue stopped work. Unfinished 9x16 round the room in 9' x 19' attic with drop gate entry to layout. Enginehouse and other facilities in Service Yard, dual mainlines, denim mill and sawmill/lumber Yard in two of the corners. Trains ran when power went on February 2010 but not since. IMG_1582IMG_1580
