Here are a few from ours. This batch represents actual cars I had at different times in my youth

We had a variety of vehicles on the A.T.&S.F with a used car lot beneath the trestle in the middle photo. My Dad always admired the Mercedes 300 SLC and we found a one owner 1957 190 SL in New Orleans for $900 in 1968.

Some period cars added life to other scenes.

The local Ford dealer specialized in exotics and classics

I like to match them up with my custom buildings.

need to get some work on layout, it is just so cold int he NC area. I keep my Train rooms heat off since i heat separately  ( use to be a fish room and I heated room at 80 so insulation is great) and usually stays 55 but today it was 40. but here is my small collection so far.

Corsair, who made the Ford cabover stake truck?

SRT, the cabover is 60s and suitible as a glass truck too..?

You must have been at a dealership for a long time. I was at a buggy & custom shop; a VW hobbiest recruited for extra help as knowledgable air cooled mechanics pool dried up.

You may note a pattern here...

An old toy kicking around the family toy box for generations. It had a "blown head" and less crappy chipped paint than bare metal, so was customized with a pinewood derby helmet, a sticker stripe, and a modern blue/violet color.

Not my prettiest but the colors, origin, and age make it a fav.

Lee , I have a question probably only you have an answer to.  Has anyone made a die-cast 1:50, 1:48 or 1:43 M-109 155MM Paladin self propelled howitzer??

I have the 1:48 Aurora Kit but have not taken the time to paint and assemble.  Part of this problem is also have not decided if to assemble with moving parts or all just just fixed for a flat car load which is my primary intent.

Vehicles on a layout can represent life itself.  On display at the Redford Theater layout this year are 2 cars that I sent to Jacob [SantaFe158] and Mark to use on the display.  In front of my first movie show is my first car a 1955 Chevy, black and white hardtop, that my dad had bought new.  Second is a 1955 Chevy 210 painted to match my best friends first car.

Main st. is busy.  It's introduction day for the New 1959 Chevrolet lineup at Garyville Motors. 

I see a few newer year cars have found there way in front of McDonald's.  The Shell station is a local hang out.  Also some cars and trucks from the old neighborhood   Azgary

I'm very familiar with those in real life (I was in heavy mech units for the duration of my time in the Army). I took part in a test series on rocket assist projectile firings in conjunction with the Army and USMC in the 90s, using Paladins. I always thought it was hilarious how they used to crow about the air conditioning in those things but the red legs always complained that they never worked (the AC going down never deadlined them, regardless of the heat), so the crews  broiled inside them on the move most of the times I worked with them.

As far as I know, they're only made in 1/72 and 1/32 scale that are worth anything (other smaller scales are made, but those are crappy toys for accuracy).

Added a few of the Greenlight tv/movie themed vehicles to the layout - Big Lebowski Gran Torino at the bowling alley, Godfather Cadillac at the pizza parlor, and a couple of RVs (Breaking Bad and ?) at the football tailgate party.

There's been such wonderful variety shown on this thread so far, I thought I'd offer a little more from the variety of neighborhoods in Moon Township,  if you like...

Frank, Your layout service stations must have some bad gas! The cars look great, but in every picture there is a car hood up and someone working on it! LOL

Brian, great looking cars and tons of them I really think that Auto ramp is sweet looking, nice choice of cars to be loaded!

Lots of Batmobiles here! FYI, a company called Eaglemoss has made most of the vehicles from the Batman franchise, many (if not most) in 1/43 from what I've been told.

Lee, thanks so much for info and insight.  I decided to built the kit with everything glued "down" including hatches, cannon in/on transport support, 50BMG stowed, etc. .

This is the kit.

Will mount it on a flat car.

One of its companions will be this.

Have a couple more military loads on flats.  Rest of consist will be modern freight.  All to be pulled by a MTH Premier UP SD70ACe "Bush" 4141.

My inspiration came one day looking out the window of my office in early 2000's where I was QA Manager of a company that made rubber hoses from 1/2-inch to 6-feet diameter.  We made hoses for Humvees and Abrams.  Anyway just outside the window was the double track mainline used by NS and Amtrak.  On this day heard the train and almost did not look but did.  There was an Abram on a flat.
