Our club layout has three sets of tracks on our hinged lift bridge. Over the years a few have been recipients to a good size bump on the top of the noggin. We have decided to eliminate this hazard before one of us gets a serious whack on the head.

Has anyone designed something with a pulley system? Or something safer.

I'd love to see what you've done!!

Hello Jeff,

You could make a unit like Carl has shown but use an Electric Actuator in place of the gas shock. The actuator could be a 120v or a 12vdc with limit switches.

I was thinking a pulley system would be faster than an electric actuator. I could be wrong though!

Hello Jeff,

They make all kinds of actuators, length of travel, speed, etc. it would depend on how fast you wanted the action to be. Like the gas shock, the actuator would be out of sight.

I am assuming that you would mount the pulley overhead and connect the bridge via a rope/cable with a counterweight.
