Just found out the Lincoln Funeral Train AND extra cars are now shipping. Had a call from Lionel to verify my card to ship.

The first charge went through, but the second charge tripped some kind of trigger on my card, causing a call to me to get it to go through. Ahh, the pains of all those darn holiday charges and excesses. OUTCH!

A slight glimpse of the characters inside the cars. The only flaw I noticed was a corner molding that broke off. Two light dabs of glue weren't enough to hold it on. I will have to get that back on. The black crepe on the cars is plastic, whereas it is a satiny cloth on the locomotive..........

Could you elaborate on the broken corner molding? It's hard to tell from pictures posted so far what part this might be. Thanks.

Overall, looks like a nice set though so far....

Here is a picture of the corner of the car with the black trim piece fallen off. Same as on mine- looks like two small glue spots. Seems it will be easy to reglue. Given the amount of applied detail parts on the loco and cars, a minor issue.

Thanks. Now that I see what to look for I noticed it in the earlier pics of Doug's and Tim's.

Mike W., I took a good look at the cars yesterday, and they are indeed plastic. After looking at the boxes for descriptions, it only mentioned brass and metal for the locomotive. The two add-on cars have identical interiors, and we can only guess which character is supposed to be Mrs. Lincoln, or son Robert. The United States has dividers and the caskets are in separate rooms. Mr. Lincoln's is draped in the flag.
None of the coaches are illuminated. This is not a complaint, but just a statement. I noticed a screw fell off the United States on one of the trucks, and there is another missing. So far that would be the only "flaw" the train runs very well!
I hope every owner likes his or her copy.

What casketS? I was not aware there was any other than President Lincoln's casket aboard the train. Would someone, kindly, educate me about this?
Frank
Received mine yesterday, and I find the detail on the locomotive to be just stunning. I heard about the train here when it was being planned, and I wanted to thank whoever it was who first posted about it.

I bought the two-car add-on set, and after looking up the train on the net and finding out that there were nine cars on the original train, while I'm not going to buy three more sets, I did buy ONE more. Smile
The PB&W RR Directors car was the last car on the train. As the train was transferred to each consecutive railroad on the route, that railroad changed engines and coaches (sometimes sleeping cars) with its own. As I mentioned before, the Presidential Car "United States" and the Director's car were the only two cars that made the entire journey. Lionel's model has the Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati RR locomotive "Nashville" and pulled the train between Cleveland and Columbus.
