My four-year old LC+ Rectifier locomotive started to have jamming of the gears, and rotation not smooth,   No history of trauma. (Falls, collisions, things of that sort.)  Really not operable. Moves short distance, then jams. I took off trucks and looked to see if some obstruction or broken gear, couldn't find anything. Anyone know who can do LC+ gear repairs/replacement with metal gears?

Thanks for any advice.

Thanks! Seems like I eventually get to join lots of clubs: first the F40 Wire Routing Club, now this one. Took the locomotive over to my LHS yesterday and Brian said he's seen lots of issues like this. Sometimes its the gears, sometimes related to the motor shaft. He's going to take a look, but not 100% hopeful. Maybe I'll be looking under tables at train shows for an old post-war rectifier frame and trucks.

This problem sort of putting me off of Lionchief + until the units with all metal gears, get into the distribution

system.  This I suspect will take a bit of time. Right now I have regular Lionchief engines, if they go bad not out that much money. Then comes the problem can we easily identify the metal gears in the truck at least for diesels,or will dealers

actually know which stock is which.  I am new to Lionel so other more knowledgeable people hopefully will comment.

I know things are not built like they used to be, but.
