I recently had this car repaired by a well known repair person who replaced the R4LC board.  He tested it and returned to me and it worked fine using Cab 2 Legacy version 1.6  But after I added it to a lashup using trainlink its functions became very erratic.  Crew talk, volume, usually caused lights to flash.  Simply addressing car by its id number produced 10 seconds of static.  Car would make clickety clack when moving and once in a while it would even play some talk.  As per the instructions for this car, I reprogrammed using aux1, 6 to no avail. Tried changing the info for this car to cab1 and tmcc and sounds to railsounds and railsounds 5.  This car is from 2007 and is one of the earlier sound diners.  Suggestions appreciated.  Phil

Not sure what to suggest without seeing it.  I'd want to know what version of R4LC was used.  That originally shipped with an R2LC-C11, and the suggested replacement is the R2LC-C13.  I'm 99.9% sure that the R2LC-C08 or R4LC-C08 would also work, but it shouldn't have a Legacy R4LC, those have R4LC-Sx version stickers.

Hi John,

The R2LC11 isn't available any longer, i used a R2LC08. I tested it here for a week and it was fine. When Phil received it back it was fine too. Trouble started when he set it up in a lash up using trainlink, I'm not sure that would have anything to do with it. I told him to ship it back to me and I'll check into it , once i get it back i'll report my findings.

Thanks, Alex

Alex and John  Good news, Using both conventional and Legacy operation, I finally did get it responding to commands; First , on my bench using a MTH Z750 power supply and whistle and horn buttons it worked if I held the whistle and horn buttons  done for a second or two!

As for getting it working in Legacy, there were some issues that made this confusing.  The slider switch for program/run  never showed which side was which.  So had to factor this into all my experiments.  For anyone who has trouble with this product, here are some rules to follow.  When the slide switch is in program and you assign a number and press set, the car will create static for 10 to 20 seconds.  I thought something bad was happening but this sound is ok.  Then slide the switch the other way for run.

There is a reprogramming routine I always ran that is in the manual and my next step was to follow the directions and run it.  Then I addressed the car using its engine number and hit info on the cab 2.  I made sure the settings were for Passenger car, Legacy and Legacy Railsounds.

Then I added the car to a lashup and found that it immediately showed up as a passenger car with the little trainlink symbol automatically placed above the car.  Previously, you had to hit a softkey  to make that happen.  I saved this information and now it is working well.    Thanks again Alex and John and all the other people on this forum.  Phil
