We added 2 new Lionel 180 PH bricks to our layout as we continue to divide the layout into more power blocks. We learned after a hard night of problems and probably frying a DCS tach sensor board that there are some powerhouses wired with reverse polarity to the majority. When the train crossed from one block to another with the new PH it would short out. After a lot of hair pulling Caleb realized that reversing the input to the tiu from the PH fixed our problem. Unfortunately after one of the shorts one of our engine now just takes off full speed ahead. Thanks Lionel QC. Beware. Dave NSHR's

Sorry to hear this Dave. I bought second hand bricks that were corrected of this problem by simply grinding the large side of the plug spade off and marking the top of the plug with yellow nail polish. While temporarily powering up a siding from a brick through a direct lock on with alligator clips I pulled a loco onto the siding and the breaker tripped. I checked and re checked my wiring to the lock on, when that was correct I became quickly baffled and frustrated. I happen to look down at the plug on the other brick at the yellow reference mark and it went off like a light in my head. I ground the large spade on the plug down and turned it over and bingo, problem solved. This is very frustrating and as I look back now was the cause of some of the earlier problems I had related to DCS which I ended up selling. Lionel or someone had the part numbers of the bricks that were made the wrong way and as luck would have it most of them were the ones I had. After all that has happened I am finally remembering to check these bricks when problems arrive. I wish Rich would put a sticky on top of the electrical/Legacy forums to Check your bricks for proper polarity Big Grin Good luck.
