I want to connect my Lionel 180W PH power supply directly to my TIU using a Lionel TMCC TPC cable set (6-14194). I’m planning on cutting off the spade connectors and hooking banana plugs to the wires.

Is this a good idea? I’m concerned about circuit protection. Do I need to use the TMCC Direct Lock On or will the breaker in the PH be enough?

Thanks,

George

I use 4 180W Powerhouse Bricks for track power... one each is connected to each of the 4 TIU inputs (Var1,Fxd1,Fxd2,Var2); I have used them this way for 6 years now without any problems... The breakers in the bricks are very fast and always have tripped when there's been a short...

I forget how I made the connection from the bricks to the TIU;I am not near the layout now but I can look at it tomorrow... let me know if you need this info...
I use 4 Lionel 180 bricks (along with 3 Z4000 and MRC Pure) without any issues with each having an input into a TIU channel. I cut a couple of connections off and on the others I used a Lionel cable that I tnen used to connect to the TIU. The breakers are fast and I found that they take a load slightly better than my Z4000. With multiple consists on a loop (including the Acela), closing the Acela doors would trip the Z4000 and the doors would not close. The same loop and consists did not have any issues with the Lionel 180 brick.
