I have one of the Lionel 2-10-10-2 Santa Fe engines (3000) from a couple years ago and I have noticed how "low" to the rails the front horizontal side links sit.   They sit so low, they actually tap the springs on my Ross Custom Switches turnouts as the engine passes through.  Does anyone else have this issue?  I'm expecting it to eventually ruin the springs or something worse, maybe "catch" and cause more significant damage.   Anyone else running this engine with Ross Switches with the D1000 motors on our layout?   What was your fix?

43Trainman,

I had the same issue with my Lionel PRR 2-8-8-2 on one of the twenty Ross switches that were on our layout a few years ago (BDSME) the engine drive gear was hitting one of the screws that held the top of the switch machine on. One of our clever members changed the round head screw to a flat top screw and no more problem.

Thanks all, sorry, I've been out of town and haven't been checking in.   It seems at least I'm not the only one.  Yes Billy, I see your point.  lol.   Romiller, thank you for the image and suggestion, I guess I'll try that.  I'm also guessing that's a modded paper clip?   Any issues or tricks I need to know, or just go at at it with a needle nose pliers until it works?   Is that the only fix?  (no, I don't care to redo everything from under the table w/ tortoise).   Thanks all for constructive assistance.

I use .025 music wire formed as in the picture. The form will be reversed depending on what side the DZ1000 will be installed on the switch. This also works great for mechanical derail. It takes several tries to get the proper spring opening just right for proper contact of the switch rails to make perfect contact against each switch outside rail. Instead of screwing the DZ100 down each time you make an adjustment just hold it in place with your finger until you get it perfect. IMG_0504
