I have a question for either Dave Olson or Ryan Kunkle . What are the dimensions of the Defect Detector? There are none listed in the online catalog. Thanks in advance!

It's on a 5" piece of FasTrack so that may help judge.  Judging by the building it looks like a direct lock on building which is approx 3"x3".

Marty, I knew it was attached to a 5 inch piece of Factrack. I’m just trying to figure where it would fit into my layout. So say 3”x3” plus another 1/2” per side for the base. That would make it about 4”x4” and it extend out say another inch from the Fastrack roadbed. Would you think that’s about right?

Some nice engines, but not sure I will be buying any. Will certainly not be buying any new Lionel rolling stock. Indeed, I will never buy any again as long as Lionel doubles down on its absurd decision to scrap its industry-leading die cast sprung trucks and couplers with hidden uncoupling tabs and replace them with its cheap partially-die cast non-sprung trucks with huge UGLY thumb tack couplers. Have to believe that they will relent at some point, as rolling stock sales continue to decline. In the meanwhile, I will continue to buy old new stock from the dealers I patronize. Thankfully, there is still plenty of that in the marketplace!

Looks like the shack is approximately an inch off the roadbed so you need to keep that in mind.  So to answer your question I would guess the shack is approx 4"x4" or a little more in total if it has a base on it.  You could ask Ryan and Dave on the Facebook live feed at 4PM.  Again it's a guess based on the 2 items we do know the size of.

I realize we’ve kicked this subject to death and I completely agree with you. The last time the subject of the “improved” truck design went round and round, the final verdict was “vote with your wallet.”  I can honestly say there are at least half dozen freight cars in this catalog I would otherwise order (for starters, all five of the ATSF 50’ boxcars), but instead I will take the exact same approach as you.

Where are the 21" cars?   Santa Fe and UP?    Ryan even mentions them in the challenger video.

I'm wondering the same thing....

you can view them on the lionel store.  i just typed in union and it pulled up a 2pack for the excursion train and a 2pack for the challenger.   Several sets for the santa-fe

I was hoping for Legacy Non powered units. Plain old non powered units do nothing for me.

9943,

Did you see the SD40-2 Non Powered units. Also what's special about a Legacy non powered unit vs a Whatever non powered unit. I have run MTH non powered units in a MU of Legacy diesels.

JohnB

The benefit with the legacy equipped non powered units is that they have smoke, lights and operating couplers with legacy control of course. I liked when they did them years go. I was hoping for a legacy non powered dash-9 for my lionel SF Dash-8 but that didn't happen.

For years I've seen posts featuring guys saying "Nothing in this one for me!".  And I've thought... well there must be one thing... right?

Nope.  Not this time.  Not a single thing.  Makes me kind've sad.

Jon

Yeah, I feel your pain. Heavy on the Legacy Stuff, no LC+, etc.

The first Lionel catalog I have seen in all my many years which doesn’t have anything for me. On the other hand, I ordered several engines from 2019 Vol. 1, so that’s OK...

There are 7-8 cars I would have purchased but will not because of the trucks. They are nice but I will not buy anything with the new trucks.

I saw them... Santa Fe looks beautiful.... but no msrp..... 😤

The SD40-2's intrigue me even as a 2-railer. I'm guessing that an upgraded frame and fuel tank means the gap between the trucks and pilots will be gone allowing for a scale-size fuel tank. If that is the case then maybe MTH can sit up and take notice and do the same for their SD40-2's allowing for a scale-wheel, fixed pilot version.

The Legacy non-powered units have command control operated electrocouplers, lights, sounds, and smoke.

Andrew

Sure do. That's why I was hoping these non powered units were legacy equipped.

So are you saying Legacy Dummies are not that dumb?

Question, the first picture of the VisionLine Challengers (Great Looking Locomotives) shows, the rear of the Cab with back draft steam exhaust. Is that feature going to be included, or possibly not. The other Challengers do not show pictures of the back draft steam exhaust, just the first picture. It’s not a deal breaker at all, and I like the Wheel Slip feature, the rest of the really nice features offered.  It’s going to be a very nice Articulated Locomotive to havevin Ones Roundhouse....Happy Railroading.....I ordered the Brass-Hybrid, N&W K2 #123.

Well I have to narrow it down to two maybe 3 items … the UP A-B-A PA units, The Long Haul K4 Tender with pinstripes and the detection device....

But here is a list I could easily be persuaded to buy:

aux tender 2aux tender

Nice, but why is the price upped to 500 dollars... Are they powered or something?!!!

k4 long haul

This is a no brainer... did the PRR actually make a pinstriped version?

MP 482

This Mopac steamer is very tempting!

SP atlantics 2

SP atlantics

These are nice, if I had some extra coin I would order one of these.

LV RS11

I like this RS -11, however can I get it w/o the CR logo?

PA UP AAPA UP B unit

I will be ordering these, but again 5 bills for the B unit? It appears that its NOT powered as well?

SD 40 hiawatha

I like the Hiawatha SD 40...

SD 40 UPs

Hey was the price dropped on these? I am thinking of picking up these too... I am going to have to broom somethings

freight sound reefers

hmm maybe a GN steel side reefer with sound? Or some additional SF or UPs? Wow.. .nice.

kitchen cars

Now these are nice too, and a couple of bunk /sleeper cars would be nice... however they need some arch bar trucks on these?

And the SP cars below are a nice touch, just wish Lionel would make some 60 ft Harriman cars, with that RPO.

NoSP heavyweightsSP RPO

This is a great idea,  I asked Ryan for one 2 Yorks ago... so I am going to get a couple of these. However, how am I  going to mate these to Atlas track?

detector

And last but not lease are these additional sensors. Will they fit in Atlas or Gargrave track?

Sensor

Well that is my highlights. No Vision Line Challenger for me.

BTW. What happened to the additional UP Excursion cars? And any additional 21 inch cars in general. They were snapped up like hot cakes....

Besides I have a list of passenger cars that would be big sellers!

GN Empire builder

NP North coast Limited

NYC 20th Century Limited

PRR Congressional 21 inch cars

Santa Fe Chief

How about a Black Diamond Express with an old Camel back?

Well I have plenty of more ideas but my wallet has run out just thinking about the above

Nice catalog but not allot for me, the stuff I like I really can't afford and that is ok. I'll enjoy what I see others get.

Of all the stuff I like the 49er challenger is just plain hideous, they could have come up with a better scheme IMO but if it sells then what do I know.

cool stuff for the most part.

Dave

I need to start checking the local stores to see what their price on the Depew, Lancaster, And Western RS-11's are. Need to save a little money, I don't even own anything legacy or even own anything greater than a cw-80... Will I be blown away? I grew up on conventional and I've only got one sound loco (A trainsounds MTH Blue Comet). I sure hope so!!!!

Personally, I will most likely be ordering the NS 8520 and possibly one or two of the 86’ box cars. Will the NS 8520 have the correct headlight and not the one shown in the picture, and will it have sunshades?

I noticed that too and the wrong model lettering (AC44C6VVCF).   I am very interested in NS8520  and was happy to see it will take O36 curves.  I also really like the W&LE SD40-2's.
