I saw enough to know folks saying LC and LC+ are the future (like I have been preaching) are 100% right on!  And I too am interested in LC 2.0.   I hate that folks have leaked it already..  A week in advance.  That YouTube video was rough but there is a little bit of info there.  10 pages of legacy and 50 pages of LC-LC+!

Shame, looks like Legacy will be put out of production in a few years as a result.

Shame, looks like Legacy will be put out of production in a few years as a result.

I don't think so.   It will just be able to be controlled with Bluetooth and universal LC controllers.  And hopefully run on DC.  So we can have full control of 3 engines for 39.99.  Or maybe 5 in a few years.  And not have to buy any type of control system.  Sounds amazing doesn't it??

May I add the trouble with communicating with the engine through the rails no longer exists with Bluetooth technology.  And that's a big plus!   The possibilities are endless!!  Everything is Bluetooth now.  Lights, receptacles, speakers, TVs, refrigerators, stoves, work lights, headphones.   Why should model trains be left behind?

Alright now wait a minute, what is LC 2.0? Is it LC/+ items that can run on the legacy remote? 

Actually I just compared the 2019 catalog to the 2018 one and it turns out that LionCheif is not taking over just yet. If you compare the pictures of the locomotives with a transparent view of the internals, you will notice that they are the pictures for Legacy locomotives.

So the guy in the video was wrong about the sections he called "The Lioncheif Plus stuff." Those sections are actually the Legacy items.

Don't know yet.    I think its Legacy engines the now run on LC remotes. : )

Really I think we wait until the 2019 book can be looked at.  Lots of stuff for everybody in there.  And rolling stock knows no control system!  The kids even win with more Thomas the Train stuff!  CHOOO CHOOO

I didn't see much in the way of new tooling.  Looks like they might have infused the "baby" Berk with LC+ 2.0.  (Personally I would rather have the larger "726" repro that shipped in 2018.)  No traditional-sized K4 or 2037 clone.  The K4 would be easy to do, because under the skin it's pretty similar to the Alaska RR Pacific that was part of the first-generation LC+ locos.  I guess my wallet is safe for another 6 mos!

The speculation is regarding what lion chief plus 2.0 is going to be.

That sounds great, but there have been a few posts recently saying that Bluetooth isn't all it's cracked up to be. It doesn't have the range, and drops the engine frequently. I bought a bunch of them, but I haven't opened any yet. I would love nothing more than to be rid of flakey track signals, but that remains to be seen. If it works on my layout, it'll work anywhere. Fingers crossed!

P.S. I see the cleaning crew came through here earlier today. One of my posts is missing. That's OK, I kept the receipt in the form of an email "like notice". BTW, you missed a spot.

Being new to the hobby, and realizing how anticipated the catalogues are, I’ve been watching more closely. 

I think it is cute to watch a “kid” leaf through the 2019 Lionel catalogue. It provides insight into how he sees the new offerings. Helps me better understand why the catalogue has so much for kids. Lord knows they must raise up a new crop of customers. 

I was a Just Trains in DE today, which was by chance because of a business meeting.  I didn't  pick up any of the catalogs because I thought to myself they would be just the old ones I have seen on here before. Now, I am thinking that maybe I saw these sitting there?!?  Ahhh..the thought of having one is killing me now. I'll never know for sure, but I think they should drop the catalog early tomorrow online if dealers are going to have it in stores this weekend.

...I'm a Pennsy guy through and through, but I might have spotted the Lionchief 0-8-0 in an New York Central flyer set.  Prototypically that switcher and and tender model looks NYC, and not PRR at all,  to me.  I have passed on the holiday deals for the Pennsy flyer set, hoping to see the NYC version soon. So, I'll have my eye on that.  Besides, the Central steamed through the Pine Creek Pennsylvania Grand Canyon to Jersey Shore, which is near my cabin in upstate PA.  

Interested to see what else is new in LC+ but with a new house, hopefully the limited train budget will be dedicated to a....Layout!!!  Which means I also noticed how many accessories are catalogued.

I bought two of the new Legacy engines with Bluetooth recently and it was easy to set up without a command set and the engines ran fine. However, I have experienced where the Bluetooth drops and the engines loose signal. You have to reconnect before you can run the engine again. On my two locomotives the RPM levels do not change from idle when using only Bluetooth or the Universal remote. As the train goes around you hear sounds but not appropriate for the speed it is going. There is no brake sounds, there is no halt function and if the engine is turned on for smoke and you want to turn it off with the app, it goes back to smoke when you start up the engine again. You can't quill the horn either. Just to name a few of the things I have dealt with so far.

I personally decided to get the Legacy Cab 1l Command Set and it is amazing how much better it is to run the Legacy engines. They start smoother, run smoother and you get all the sounds you could ask for. I know people who have always used Legacy are probably thinking well of course it's better but I got into Legacy engines thinking I could skip the command set as advertised, and I have discovered that is definitely not the way to go. You can get a Cab 1l set for about $200 now. I picked it because it was less complicated to use than the more expensive command set. 

I think Lionel is trying sell people on the idea you can do just fine without the command set and maybe some will be happy that way, but if you are going to spend $500 - $2,000 on each engine you might as well get the most out the product.
