There is an engine and tender for sale but it has a strange listing title. It says it is a MTH Lionel 263E Blue Comet engine and WT tender. It says that MTH made this set for Lionel. I thought this was odd and asked the seller about the description twice but never received an answer. Does anyone know if Lionel had MTH make this set or if this is accurate?

Mth made the “Lionel classics” version for Lionel in the 80s and then acquired a licensing agreement to use the Lionel name sometime in the 2010s. Lionel did produce a few tinplate items on there own, but almost all of the modern tinplate you see out on the street are MTH items. My dates could be a little off.
Yes the description is accurate it was made by MTH ( the plate between the pickup rollers on the photo of the underside of the locomotive says Mikes Train House.) Looks to be a very nice reproduction of the original. As the post above mentioned probably made in the 80's
