My 394 Lionel beacon light starts flickering after turning on. After all these years I figured out that there are no wires going to the bulb base on top, rather from the skinny pole up the middle and the frame. When I hold the base that the bulb screws into firmly to the top platform the flickering stops. So the silver base is loose. I tried to pinch the pins under the top platform to tighten but that did not help. Should I try some solder from underneath.

You could just run a small gauge wire from the ground fahnstock clip up the side corner of the superstructure and solder to the top platform.
