Lionel 6-6908 PRR N5C "porthole"  caboose.

This very basic Lionel lighted caboose was produced as part of the Famous American Railroads (FARR) series in 1984. The series included:

6-9476    PENN single door box car

6-6307    PENN single dome tank car

6-6123    PENN covered hopper

6-9456    PENN double door box car

6-6908    PENN illuminated porthole caboose

The caboose includes diecast non-sprung trucks and a simple sheet metal underframe. The trucks are an unusual "leaf" spring design. The caboose is missing the usual rivet detail found on other similar Lionel caboose models.

Actually that cabin car and the rest of those cars listed came out in 1984.  They were the cars for the 5th and last train in Lionel's Famous American Railroad Series.  The train also had the #6200 Pennsylvania Turbine engine and tender which was Lionel's first remake of the post-war PRR turbine.  The engine and cars were all sold separately.  In 1989 they brought out a PRR stock car for the train.

You might want to re-assemble that truck on the right side of the picture.  It looks "rode hard and put up wet".  BTW they made about five of these "FARR" sets as well as some nice "Limited" sets and some Fallen Flags sets.  There was a "FARR" 9418 boxcar as well, that had the FARR RR logos printed on it.  The sets all had about the same collection of cars plus or minus a car here and there.   The Wabash was a passenger train I think.  Most of the sets had steam engines, with a few diesels mixed in.  There are some books on Lionel by Greenberg that detail a lot of information on all of the Lionel products from the early 1900's up to date.  They have books for prewar, postwar, MPC, sets, accessories, factory rarities, etc.  It might be easier to look them up in the book or on the internet rather than having to list all of them here car by car.
