I have a Lionel 675 steam locomotive that I bought on Ebay and have been restoring it.  I runs very well, but in my haste to disassemble it I forgot to take pictures.  The smoke unit was converted from pill type to fluid type. When re-assembling the locomotive I cannot get the smoke unit oriented and fitting correctly.  I am wondering if anyone has a photograph showing the correct orientation of the smoke unit in the locomotive.

Thank you, but the drawings do not show how the smoke is orientated in the locomotive.  I need a picture of how the smoke unit attaches to the steam chest.

Thanks again for the quick reply.

Hello Hoss!  Here are 2 photos I took of one of my 675 locomotives, which I restored from a rusted piece of junk.675smokeunit2TEXT

The bracket securing the smoke unit is just behind the boiler front attached by a screw underneath. This particular bracket shows the level of rust originally found on the loco. The smoke unit is just aft the bracket. This photo was taken with the steam chest partially detached so the angles appear deceptive, e.g. the cam to the left is really beneath the bellows of the smoke unit.675 smoke unit1TEXT

This gives you a better view of the cam beneath the smoke unit seated in the space above the steam chest just  abaft the boiler front.

Hope this helps.

They were always a bit of a bear to reassemble!  😐

I'll second that.  All the other PW steamers I own were fairly simple and straightforward, but the 675 was a real PITA to put back together.

As an aside, does anyone know a good method for making the 675 boiler front fit tightly?

use a bigger hammer... Image result for big hammer illustration

Thanks! I appreciate the pictures and replies. Still having problems though.  When I put the smoke unit in the position shown in the pictures, the steam chest will not seat against the boiler.  It seems like the smoke unit support bracket is too long.  Did Lionel make this bracket in different lengths?  I am also not sure if the screw and washer screw into the horizontal or vertical hole on the bracket.
