The seller put it back up a few days ago. Its currently at $875
Yes, it's the same seller--but it's a different unit. He has more than one.

Where was that stated?
I wanted to buy one for a spare but at these prices forget it.
I don't wanna run trains with a phone or a smart device. The Base3 supposedly won't work with DCS either.
I wonder why Lionel didn't put a antenna on the new base 3 ?
It'll be interesting to how this plays out.

Has anyone tried this SOURCE???

Unless I missed something recently it "works with DCS" just as any Base would, and has in the past:
1.) DCS Remote controls TMCC/Legacy -- Connect the BASE-3 to your TIU, via a serial cable, and the DCS remote will operate your TMCC/Legacy locomotives through it.
and
2.) CAB-x App does not control PS2 or 3 -- The CAB-3 (App) and BASE-3 will not operate PS2 or 3 locomotives via DCS command, only conventionally using a PowerMaster, same as CAB-1/BASE-1, CAB-2/BASE-2, and CAB-1L/BASE-1L.

Some time ago. It was long gone!

As Mike pointed out, it works the same as it always did with Base2.

Thanks for clearing this up. I thought i saw this on a Youtube review. Boy am I feeling stupid today.
@RickO posted:I'm just so glad I grabbed a 993 off of Amazon $282 the week before the catalog announcement.
Theres one for over $500 with 6 days to go. I guess this is a good indication of how folks feel about the Legacy handheld.
If you think about it. If someone buys a $2400 VL locomotive, and wants a handheld that accesses ALL of the legacy features, what choice do they have?
Ironically, theres a DCS system currently at $202 with only two days left. T
Did the same thing. Can’t find them now. EvilBay prices are ridiculous, if they are even real. It was worth $300 to me to get an extra 993 remote to work with the Cab3 if my original Cab-2 remote base dies. Which I imagine wont be for a very long time. But 800+? No thanks. I’d use the app.

The Base3 will require a SER2 as it doesn’t have it’s own serial port.
OK technically correct if using just a HH and DCS. Good point.
For those running Legacy with the DCS and getting Legacy features it really is the same for those running DCS with the app. The LCS SER2 can be had for $40.

It has a USB port. A USB to serial adapter will work according to Dave O.
Might need a null modem. This how a Command Base would be connected to the Base3 if someone wanted to use a Cab1.

Not very wrong either -- the post was implying that DCS won't work with Base3 at all.

Have you seen the USB port in the publications? it's Micro-B. While I'm sure one can exist, a Micro-B to Serial adapter is not common.

Dave has said he has done it. ‘nough said. I see a lot of glass half full guys here. It can’t do this, it can’t do that. Why not just wait until its released?

I believe the intent is that you would use the SER2 plugged into one of the three LCS ports on the BASE3. IMO, this is a non-issue.

I didn't say it wasn't possible but go find the needed adaptor for the same price as a usb-a version... I have a dozen or so of those just laying around.
Plus, who is still using micro-b? It's a dying connector. A usb-c connection would have made much more sense.
I never doubted the ser2 being able to acomplish this and by the time you even find the correct micro-b to serial cable, the ser2 is probably the cheaper route.
This whole conversation hurts my head, and makes me glad I run conventional!😜
Actually brand new in the box can also mean that it's never been back to Lionel to have a modification made to the Cab2 and never had a charging mod made to the base.
