My grandson’s Docksider lost its rear coupler assembly. I have the coupler, but the screw, washer, and centering mechanism (spring only like front coupler?) is likely forever lost in the carpet. I cannot figure out how to access or navigate Lionel’s parts catalog. Anyone have any advice as to repairing this…short of just loosely screwing the coupler to the mounting lug and not worry about centering. Thanks. RBG

Update. I took a closer look at the coupler issue. It appears that the coupler is screwed to a tiny (read that as stupidly fragile given its function) post. I don’t see any way a replacement part would solve the problem…only modifying the lug to accept a screw to attach the coupler. In the end, such a fix would be more robust. Sorry to take up forum space. RBG

Thanks for the reply! Your Docksider is slightly different than mine. On my Docksider, the coupler is screwed into to an 1/8th inch diameter by 1/4th inch high (approx.) post that’s molded into a (for lack of a better word) lug. It was this post that snapped off. I c/a’d the post back onto the lug and backed the locomotive smartly into a couple of freight cars a few times and it stayed together. So when it finally fails, I’ll tap and screw the coupler into the lug. I appreciate your response.

I finally figured out that your grandson has the engine from the 6-49618 set that was cataloged in 2007. This is a conventional transformer engine, mine is a FlyerChief engine. Lionel apparently made some changes to the shell moldings with the switch to FlyerChief.

The part number of your grandson's engine is 6-48056, it was cataloged for separate sale in 2006. If you put that number into the Lionel support site it brings up the parts page. All the parts are still available if you need any. New replacement shells are not available. i hope you can get it fixed to work as new. Glue joints are fine!
