Hi forum, I recently bought a Lionel 0-8-0 US Army Lionchief set. The sound cut out on it today, and after doing some investigating it looks like some bad wiring on the locomotive drawbar is the culprit. My question is how hard is it to replace the drawbar? I see the part on Lionel's website for around ten dollars is the tether wired into the board or does it just unplug? Also is it possible to fix the oringal tether? Should I just cut the heat-shrink off it and see if I can recconect the bad wire?

You can possibly repair the existing one, you won't lose anything by trying. I thing the drawbar may plug in. It would have been useful to have the actual Lionel product number so we could be more precise...
It's the locomotive from Lionel set 1923100. I just got the shell off and the heat shrink off, I'm going to try soldering the bad wires back on. If not I'll probably get a new drawbar and splice/solder it in.
Cut the heat shrink off and re-solder the wire to the connector. You can usually tell which one it came off of. Happens all the time on both ends.

Tried it, unfortunately it seems the engine died on the track last night. I think there was a short somewhere that may have fried the board. Lionel seems to sell replacement boards, but I don't feel like getting into that much of a project right now. Thanks for the help everyone though! On the bright side, I have a set of US Army themed cars to go with my 45 missile launcher!
