Received the N&W Aux tender today. When I placed it on the track the front light was on.  I was having a little trouble addressing a new number to it. Now that I have it addressed the rear coupler will fire but no lights. I'm at a loss here

Lionel 6-28088. I am using Legacy system. Tender is set up as: TYPE - Diesel.     CONTROL: TMCC.     SOUND: No sounds

Ok now that the Tender is addressed and operating, the lights do not change in a lash up. Also the rear coupler does not open. I have to physically go to it.  In other word my Y6B is address 21 and the Tender 22.  When in a lash up the tender does not respond to remote functions but if I switch over to unit 22 it will work

My guess is you're doing the lashup incorrectly.

Well GRJ In the lash up build menu on the Legacy controller, the Y6B is set as front engine facing forward #21.  The tender is set as second engine facing forward #22.  But as I said the lights or coupler do not respond when in a lash up.

Am I overlooking something or a wrong setting?  Individually the locomotive and auxiliary tender are perfect.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Still learning the ins and outs of everything. The tender had a default address of 2. In the setting menu it was listed as diesel.  I have since changed it to steam but lack of proper operation in a lash up still remains.  I have done numerous lash ups with Lionel and MTH engines but this issue with the tender is a first for me.

Sparky, I feel your pain. A week or so ago I posted here with similar issues using the exact same auxiliary tender. I tried a bunch of combinations and variations until I though that I had it...NOT! Seems like it works sometimes or doesn't. Mine acts like the program is not being saved. Here's the link to my previous thread

The antenna is the tender handrail which is insulated from the body. I had it apart to check for any problems with wires, plugs, etc earlier.

The thing is the tender works perfectly when operating it as a sole unit. When it is put into a lash up is when the no response to commands happens.

Sorry, I thought that was the locomotive number.  In any case, there was only one number, my whole point was to tell us what exact engine number and tender we are talking about.  You mention a Y6b, but I don't know if it's the TMCC or Legacy model.  If it's the Legacy model, that may explain part of your issues.

Ok John here is all the information.   The Steam locomotive is the N&W #2171 Y6B.  Lionel 6-82340 which is a legacy unit

Tender is 6-28088.  It has front and rear lights.  Remote rear coupler.  Front coupler is regular magnetic style if that helps.

John would you mind elaborating or what issue is caused by the locomotive being a Legacy model?

Thank you,

Rob

Bill is correct, if you're addressing the Legacy as a Legacy locomotive, the TMCC doesn't see the commands.  The only way to do an MU between Legacy and TMCC is to treat them as TMCC.  Try that, and I suspect the aux tender will function properly.  Of course, you lose the Legacy features like quilling whistle, 200 speed steps, etc.  This is also why I wanted to know the model numbers of all the units involved.

Ok I'll try the TMCC lash up now.

Lose the quilling whistle on that locomotive ?!!  Blasphemy!  Lmao.

Be back in a few after i try this TMCC lash up

The tender still doesn't seem to respond when in a TMCC lash up. Ok for me. Not going to cry over a minor issue. It's quite easy to switch between the two when running.

Everyone's help is greatly appreciated.
