I noticed that there was no engine module for programming, which I never knew they eliminated. Is that the case from now on? Supposedly, they expect you to but the track reader for $90! When I tried to program the train into my Cab 2, it would not run!
Has anyone experienced this problem?
Thanks,
Joe

Actually you can program it in for free. I suspect something is not being programmed correctly or you have another issue.
What is the engine ID? Did you program the information to that ID? Did it every run under command?
Here is a video by Lionel to help.
I watched the video which showed to program the engine with the sensor track. Is that the preferred method now?
It also shows how to enter the info without the sensor track.
Hi Marty,
Thanks for your reply.
So, I guess what I was asking, since the sensor track seemed fairly automatic, that would be the preferred method for set up, if you intend on buying future Legacy engines.
I only previously own 6 legacy engines which all came with the module. So, my take on the set up without the sensor track is, place it on the track, follow the video? Excuse me for my ignorance, how does the legacy control recognize the information for that particular engine? Wasn't that what the module was for?
Thanks,
joe

The module is a convenience, not a necessity. The legacy handheld will recognize the info when you manually enter it in.
Its really not any more difficult than logging in and posting here on the forum. The remote will display the appropriate icons once a "legacy" locomotive is entered.
MartyE is the "Legacy ambassador" , I'm sure he can elaborate further.
I don't know if I would consider the sensor track the preferred method but it does make it easy as running your engine over the track instead of manually entering the info. I see it more of a side benefit of the sensor track. Either way though it should be straight forward and quick.
