I'm not sure about a fair price for these 'oldies'....

My guess is about 200. I see them on eBay for over 300.
Honestly, those prices strike me as crazy.

I agree. I guess it’s supply and demand . Also depends how much you want.
It is worth what ever someone is willing to pay for it!
Happy railroading,
Don
Phil, What are you willing to pay? Want new or used? Chad
If someone wants to pay me $300 for the set, I'll take the one off my York demo track and sell it, I can use my BASE1L/CAB1L when I go to York for those prices!
My Price advice is 100-120 is the majority, add in ShipHandleTax of $10.06-13.92 you're looking at 110 to 135 total
As crazy as it sounds. They sell for nearly $300 all the time on ebay.
Of course, we can thank Lionel for the current $650 option of a new remote and base causing the ridiculous price increases of previous command sets.
Hopefully a "reasonable" forum member will have one to part with.
Wowzers. I paid $99 new for my Command set from a dealer, I think that was a cataloged promo price. It was significantly less than the a-la-carte CAB-1 alone when I was an early-adopter. I picked up another spare set for $75 on eBay when the CAB-2 was announced.
Well it seems like the price has at least doubled from the original....Maybe the original Cab-1, with pull-out antenna, is not even available. OK; I'll pay 3oo for a new pair.
Cab-1 and command base TMCC sets do show up for less than $300 - I found a new set at a local meet a couple of months ago for about $175, and I've seen them on Trainz for well under $300. The auction sites are crazy, though.
Major caveat: If you see one for a bargain price, make sure that it includes the power supply. The power supply might look like an ordinary wall wart, but it isn't - it possesses magical powers. If it's missing, there are options - search for threads regarding TMCC power supply for further details - it's been done to death here on the forum.
I have a used one I bought new, upgraded. See profile.
Is the Base1 the same as the Command Base? I thought they were.
The command base comes with cab 1 and that receives the signals to the cab one remote . I have the base and the the cab 1 remote, that comes as set. Perfect condition.
The only magic the wall transformer for the CAB1 Base is it has the third grounding plug. Some time ago someone on the forum found a non-Lionel replacement.
Naming conventions for electronics change as time progresses. I believe the original TMCC combo was referred to as Cab-1 and Command Base, the first Legacy was Cab-2 and Command Base (or Base-2??), and the most recent Legacy iteration is Base-1L/Cab-1L. With this last iteration, I believe the most common vernacular is now Cab1/Base1 for TMCC, Cab2/Base2 for Legacy, and Cab1L/Base1L for the last version. The newest version, as yet undelivered, is only a Cab3 because no hand-held remote seems to be planned.

The CAB3 will be a phone app.

Base 3. As John has said the Cab 3 will be a smartphone app, and you are correct because no hand-held remote seems to be planned.
I lucked out. My local dealer had a dusty, brand new, never opened CAB1L set (newer ish one, no pull up antenna) just a few months ago. I paid the Lionel list of $145.
I have a new TMCC set that I never used because I found the CAB1. I might sell it.
Not sure where to post this because I’m not the one selling it but the local hobby shop here in Raleigh has 2 CAB1 sets on the shelf if anyone in the area is interested. I was just there yesterday and saw them. I think he may even have 1 or 2 TMCC sets as well.
