Just getting my layout finished and unpacked my CAB1L system. What transformer was used to power the base. I found one in the storage box marked TMCC2 transformer, p/n 620-4202-000. Is this the correct one. It’s too large to fit in the CAB1L set box.

This is the Base 1L supply according to the Lionel Parts Website.
The part you reference is to the Legacy 990 Base.
Mine is as in the top pic. Model: MKA-410900500, Input:120V AC 60Hz 0.2A, Output:9V AC 500A

I’m trying to figure out how I came by this transformer. I did have several 990 sets over the years but sold them all and included the transformer so there is no way for me to have had an extra one.
However, this particular CAB1L is one of the very early releases of the system. Inside the set box is a smaller box that must have held the smaller transformer pictured above.
One of the things I remember is the transformer that came with the system was defective and Lionel replaced it with the larger one pictured.
Does anyone remember that. Unfortunately there is no one left at Lionel that would remember what transpired.
The right one is 9 vac, the wrong one is 8 vac. If the plug fits, I would guess that the wrong one would work.
Did a bit of research and found several e-mails to Lionel in April 2014. Originally it was thought that the issue was in the base but Lionel service suggested replacing the “wall wart” and see if that resolves the issues.
They sent me the larger transformer and everything worked. So that’s how I came to have the one from the 990 set.
Just found this thread, but yes I received the same transformer when my Cab 1L did not operate as it should, hooked up the replacement and all was well.

As long as the output of the transformer is in the 8-10 VAC range, and it has the 5.5/2.5mm barrel plug with the outside barrel connected to the ground prong of the outlet, it'll work with the BASE1L. Obviously, the BASE1L doesn't need the amount of current available from the hulking Legacy transformer, but it doesn't mind having it there.
