Hey Gang,
I have a Lionel Dash 9 that lost 1 of its lift rings on the body. At the past several shows and auctions, I have seen these and other scale engines with missing lift rings.
They are very fragile, and I am sure some of you have gone through the same thing.
Any idea on where to get replacements? I was looking at Precision Scale, just not sure what size to use,

Des PLains hobbies- O scale america has them in brass. IMHO, the brass ones are betterthan the oversized plastic ones by the mfg's

What is the diameter of the ring? PSC has about a dozen different sizes.

I'm in the process of painting 2 E8's in Pensy colors. Several lift rings were missing and damaged. I picked up Precision scale # 48278-1 brass lift rings and they look great. Very close to the Lionel lift rings. Precision Scale also makes them in plastic, but the brass was only a buck more.

I have no idea what the diameter is, they were molded with the body, they are pretty small.
Looks like Ray has a part number that is close. FWIW I use small twist drills as feeler gauges. If you don't have set consider picking up an index from 61-80. You may need them to install the PSC lift rings.

I use Jewelry eye pins I buy at craft stores. A bag of 100 are around $2-3. Get the smallest they make and they look pretty good and are tough.

Yes - a man after my own heart. When such things will do a good job - and they often will - it is the way to go. One must use judgement - "cheap" does not justify "wrong" - but there are things out there in the civilian world that can help us out well. The jewelry department at Hobby Lobby has some interesting raw materials.
And you can always bedazzle your boxcars!
