Hi, I have looked for this topic and did not find anything similar, sorry if I missed it. I have the Lionel KCS ES44 6-28399, and the ground lights are not responding to any command. They remain on at any speed step and do not respond to the Legacy remote keys to turn off. I have tried lash ups,  aux 2, and all other lighting functions work as per the instructions, just not the ground lights, they are always on. All other functions on the engine work exactly as designed, smoke, fans, cab lights, number boards, R17, everything except ground lights.

I have taken the deicast ES44’s apart before and for obvious reasons prefer not to take this one apart unless absolutely necessary, such as replacing a bad board. Question is, which board drives the ground lights?

I have not followed the wires to the board, as with above, taking apart is the last option for me (much care needed in reassemble).  Based on a search on the Lionel parts site, the only board not available is the RCDR board (radio receiver).

Thank you for any insights as to which board needs to be replaced before I take apart.

Jim

Firstly I would do a full factory reset on the locomotive, witch I'm sure you've already tried. After that I would guess it's a board. According to the Lionel wiring diagram found HERE it looks like they are tied directly into the DCDS motor driver found on # 22 on the part breakdown found HERE. Since they never turn off I doubt there is any firmware gremlins floating around. I would venture to guess whatever drives them is shorted closed. Someone here that is more familiar with the board might have a fix, unless the microprocessor drives them directly. Unfortunately that DCDS is unavailable so unless I missed something on the wiring or someone knows what drives them off of the
DCDS I don't know if it will be fixable.
