My Polar Express strikes again.  It was problematic from the start (long story) but for the past few years it was running well and my grandson LOVES it.  That was until a few hours ago.  No smoke, and then the engine would start, then stop after a few inches and the engine shut down.  Since the warranty is WAY expired, I dug into it.  I applied a few volts to the fan motor, and nothing.  There was no movement and the battery I used was shorted out.  A mulitmeter confirmed it.  So with my grandsons coming over for the Holidays, the train HAS to be under the tree.  I removed the offending motor (unsoldering it from the smoke unit), so it will (sort of) smoke, and the engine will run now, but without the timed smoke to the chuff, it just has a trail of wispy smoke.  Better than nothing.  At least it runs and all sounds are available.  My question is, are these little motors available?  I'm ready to tear into the can and see what's happening.  I mean, it's not working now, so I have nothing to lose.   Has anyone replaced the motor, and how do you go about getting one?  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Mine stopped working last Christmas, so I replaced the entire smoke unit. I ordered it direct from Lionel's web page. I don't remember why I didn't just replace the fan, but it could have been availability.

It was all for naught though. The new unit lasted for about an hour of run time when we got it out for this Christmas.  So now we are just using it without smoke unfortunately.
