I use my Lionel Magnetic Gantry Crane to load and unload custom flatcar and gondola loads. The various loads use fancy upholstery tacks or other small pieces of steel (or even a weak magnet for heavy loads) to attract the electromagnet. Most of the time the cars are unloaded onto Lionel semi-trailers that have one of the stake sides removed. The back and forth movement of the crane adds a lot of versatility and plans on how I did the movement appeared in the Nov. 2009 issue of CTT.
