Hey Paigetrain, I'm happy that you finally got yourself a starter set. Congratulations!

Do yourself a maintenance favor, and don't set the locomotive directly on to carpeting. If you take the engine off the track, set it down on a clean piece of cardboard or a magazine. The gears from your engine can pick up dirt and grit from even low pile carpeting.

Maybe before you get anything else for your set, you'll want to find some plastic safe lubricant for your locomotive gears.

And when you do start getting some of your favorite rolling stock for CSX and BNSF, you can just pretend that CSX or BNSF got caught short on motive power and has leased the engine from Hot Wheels leasing.

Or that it's one of the recent flurry of commemorative paint schemes the real railroads are doing these days.

Again, congratulations! You sure waited long enough.

Paigetrain,

I am also glad  you have gotten yourself a starter set. There's a couple of things I would suggest to you.

  1. Set yourself a goal to get more track and switches along and along as you can. That way you can expand your set into a larger system gradually as time goes on.
  2. If you haven't already done it, try to join one or more of the big clubs i.e. TCA, LOTS, LCCA and connect with members in your area. They will be a big help to you in expanding you outfit and maintaining your equipment.

Good luck.
