I have a Lionel 18042 Hudson I just purchased. I cannot for the life of me get the wire tether to connect if the engine and tender are hooked together. I have tried pushing the wires in and pulling them out slightly. Just cannot find a way to make it work. Anyone that has this engine can you provide a photo of how yours looks connected?

Try turning the male connector 90 degrees and insert one pin into each hole one at a time. One may have a broken pin in there.

The wire tether will connect together no problem. The problem once the two sections of wire are connected and you try to pull the engine and tender together it is like their is just to much wire or the connector is to big because there is no where for the wire to go.
Have you tried taking the tender shell off and moving the tether back, then securing it such that it can't be pulled out as far? This has worked for me a few upgrades.

I bought this engine brand new back in 1995 or 1996 and right from the get go I had the same problem. Don't know whoever designed this, and they certainly must not have test run the prototype before putting it into production. Ended up getting it rewired after trying everything I knew to resolve the issue.
PH1975 Who did you have re-wire it or did you do it yourself?
Is there a way to extend either the male or female drawbar ?
Mike Espy - I had D&L Toy Trains (located in Darien Center, NY) re-wire it.
