Bought a nice set of subject trains recently, however the traction tires have dry rotted.  Question....I found a stock number for these on line, but unable to find them on a search.  eBay sells generic sizes, but unsure of the fit.  A point in the right direction for finding these tires would be most helpful.  Also, how do I install them?  Thanks in advance!

Thank you.....I looked but did not see it listed.....wrote to them also.  I may just have to try various sizes to see if they fit....and hopefully be able to install them. I saw the drawings on the Lionel site...does not look like an easy fix. Hate to have these as shelf queens.

Brasseur's usually takes a few days to reply to e mails.

Dental probes are great for replacing traction tires, they could be had at Flea Markets usually at the Dollar up stores for about 2 or 3 dollars for a set of 4. Just be patient they can be a pain.

I don't think I will have a lot of issues putting them on the wheels, however reaching the wheels to do so is another issue. Forgive the lack of correct terminology on my part, but there is  piece on the outside of the trucks where the wheel axles fit in. I will have to remove that first to reach the wheels to slip on the traction tires.  I see where to do that (two screws, each side), but I will have to drop the trucks first.  That probably means removing the MU body from the frame (6 screws per Lionel diagram).  What else I will need to do is unknown at this time. I do have several dental probes (thank you for the hint).  Think I will take a shot in the dark on ebay for 3/4" tires and see what shows up.  I am so thankful for the Lionel 736 Berk I have since I was a kid 50 some years ago. Just had to lube it once and it runs like a charm.

That's strange, I have the Lionel Pennsy MU cars and the axles don't go into the side frames. Your right about the old Lionel Post War trains hey only need to be kept oiled and lubed and they'll never wear out.

I gave the trucks a closer look, and in fact the axles do not go into the side piece. Therefore, no disassembly required....phew. Not that I am afraid of repairing items, but if I don't have to take it apart, so much the better.

Okay also on the MTH tires. Will put in an order today.

You folks have been a great help...which is why I am on this site!
