I am just getting back into my trains and i bought a legacy controller and a new NH Bipolar engine.  I am a tech guy but i have a ton of trouble navigating the legacy controller.  Does a cheat sheet exist on how to navigate the controller?  I have watched a slew of youtube videos and i stll dont get it.  I can connect to my train, even named it, but then later when i tried to use it, the controller didnt connect with the engine .....arrrrgggggg..  Any help would be appreciated

Thank you.  I am excited again, all great advice!  I am going to make a cheat card and post it at some point -- helpful for newbies like me  (i think the user manual is written by someone very close to the product who assumes you know the language).  e.g.  who came up with the name CAB 2?  i only have one controller :-)

couple more questions if i can press my luck

- if i want to completely reset my controller and start over, is there a way to do that?

the reason i ask is that i now have my engine in the controller as #1(38) and 3800 -- i want to remove one

- When i used the softkey to get to the features on my engine, there is only one screen - at some point i though i had two screens of options -- is there a way to get to the second screen?

- i just purchased a couple 6-12057 and 6-12058 switches (havent gotten them yet) -- is it hard to program them into the controller?

thanks a ton

Hold the AUX2 key down for a couple seconds, and the extra lighting features screen will pop up.

Note that the engines are stored in the command base, not the CAB2.  You can simply delete the engine using the CAB2, write over it with a new definition, or using the Legacy System Utility 2.0 (LSU), you can erase, modify, or add one or more entries to the engine list.  The LSU is also the utility you use to write black modules for updates to the Legacy system.

The switches are programmed with a TMCC number, then you use the SW key to select the switch.  Note on the AUX1 and AUX2 keys the straight and diverging symbols, those are used to control the switches if you have SW selected.  To control engines again, press the ENG key.

thanks (blush) I actually have a PHD in technology and early education.  After owning a  small company that for many years built consumer electronics products  for mass retail, in retirement I teach product design in a local university.  I am just getting back into my trains and love the technology part of it and truly appreciate your patience and help, thanks
