In the June/July issue it says the powered unit weighs over 4.5 pounds yet it has only 1 pound 2 ounces of pulling power. IIRC in the Altas Trainman Dash review from a few months ago the weight is about the same yet the pulling power was double.

Do these really pull that poorly or was the test a fluke? A friend brought it to my attention since he is looking to purchase a pair and I had to go dig out the issue as I'd skipped it.

Anyone own a set for their first hand experiences?

Thanks

The pulling power is double on the Trainman Dash 8's because they have 4 traction tires per truck because there are traction tires on the "blind wheels" and on the last wheel set. You can see that pretty clearly in Erics review (at the 8:32 point of the video):

That's interesting. Wonder why they do it as rubber tires are a pain in the #*tt maintenance issue at times. Don't have any rubber tired diesels from any manufacturer where the wheels slip. Don't recall if the review says if these were new in the box or not, yet with that poor of a tractive effort on a 4 pound locomotive I'd have swapped on some new tires!

This is my Lionel Legacy Santa Fe E8 set 6-81219 pulling 8 MTH Premier cars. I bought it new, at York in 2016 for a great price.

I have it on my layout right now pulling 10 MTH Premier cars. I have never noticed any wheel spin or laboring from this set.

The set has been perfect in every respect.
