Lionel Legacy J3A double blinking cab light - Happy ending, thanks to Lionel!

If you are in Legacy mode it should be on the keypad with an arrow in a circle.  If you are in cab1 mode it's aux1 then 0.

Edit: correction, the button in Legacy mode is a stop sign with an R in the middle.

Press Aux1.  The reset button is “R” which is in the same position on the key pad as “0”.    

I didn't think to press AUX 1. Thanks! My answer in less than about 5 minutes. Only on the OGR Forum!

I tried the Reset 3 times. Didn't help. I guess off to my LHS.

Excessive smoke and then none sounds like the thermistor may be incorrect positioned and the smoke unit cooked itself.

Thanks John,  for picking up on that detail. I guess it's off to Lionel. Would it also have damaged the whistle steam element?

No, the whistle steam is a separate smoke unit in that model.

Just an update with a happy ending. I had to wait until the US-Canada border re-opened to non-essential travel. On Dec 2nd, I shipped my NYC J3A back to Lionel. The service department had sent me an RA number and a shipping label. On Dec 16th, it was back at the FedEx office in Ogdensburg, NY, which is a short drive from where I am. There was a nice note telling me the board was burned, so it was replaced as well as new stack smoke and whistle steam generators. I have been running it for the last several days and it is perfect. And Lionel paid for the shipping both ways! I could not be more pleased with Lionel's service and promptness.
