I just purchased a JLC Series Big Boy #4012

lionel SKEW 6-11126

When I set it on my track in program or run mode. The smoke tan runs wide open, and when I try to program it, the lights flicker but it never takes program. I have 1,500 invested in this and now feel like I am screwed. Please help. ☹️

Patience.

Is the headlight flickering after you apply power?  If so you have a TMCC/Legacy signal issue.

If the headlamps don't flicker on your other TMCC/Legacy locomotives then you'll have to open up your Big Boy because the internal antenna connection has a problem.  If they all flicker then it's your command base, the base's connection to an outside rail of the track, or its power connection at the wall outlet.

There are other possibilities too.

@chall77, hi OGR Forum Member, you haven’t filled out the OGR Forum profile so I’m not sure where you live, however, I would suggest a Lionel Service Center near where you live, to check out your Big Boy. The JLC Version is a very nice model. These came out in 2006-2007 and actually came with the Cab 2 #990 set. Lionel advertised these beautiful big boys introducing their Legacy Cab 2 remote system. So, find a Lionel repair center near where you live, if you do not live near a Lionel Service Center, we can recommend many good ones here on the OGR Forum. I do not recommend you taking this locomotive apart, it’s best to have someone knowledgeable check it out. Good luck. Happy Railroading Everyone

I would say think positive until the locomotive is truly checked out by a Legacy Repair Center. I understand Lionel is making less than good decisions on what parts to maintain, and that’s sad. I think they should rethink making the Cab 2, it’s only Money and most folks would pay for the ability to have these legacy engines repaired. Good luck, maybe it will be repairable. Happy Railroading Everyone

Yes, please take Gunrunner John’s great advice, you’ve spent good money on this nice locomotive, it’s very important a licensed Lionel Legacy dealer look into this beautiful steamer. If and when you pack this product, put it in its original cradle/properly and box, then shipper, then slip the package into a third shipper for safe and secure shipping. Triple pack. Nuff Sayd, Happy Railroading Everyone

PS., please fill out the forum profile form so we know your locality and we can be of more help. Good luck.

I am from Hampton, Virginia. This was my first experience with the inferred light between the engine and the tender along with having the ground tab from the tender to the locomotive. I simply was placing the ground inside the connector rather than on top which was allowing the light to not make direct contact with the receiving end.

The good news is it was something simple! All is well that ends well. Enjoy.
