Re: Lionel Legacy SD70ACe audio problems

Hey everyone!

I have another mystery on my hands. I scoured the forum for answers but couldn't find any. A Legacy SD70ACe NS heritage diesel of mine is acting funny. The prime mover sounds (engine RPMs/ motor sounds) are quite low. All other sounds are loud and clear. I have adjusted the pot and it does indeed change the volume of all of the engine's sounds. But then the problem is the horn is way too loud.

I have the engine apart and thoroughly checked the electronics. I removed all boards and re-seated all connectors. I couldn't find and damaged wires. Honestly this sounds like a software bug but I'm not sure.

On the legacy remote I can reduce the volume of the RPMs independently from all other sounds but I can't increase them past the low starting point.

Has anyone experienced this?

If you keep hitting AUX1 and then VOL-UP repeatedly, the sounds should come up in volume relative to the horn/bell.

Thanks for the reply John! Unfortunately I already tried that before taking the engine apart. This one might have to go to a real service center. I'm stumped

That's odd, I suspect service is the answer. It almost has to be the sound board from the description, but I've sure never seen that particular issue.

Yeah it's very odd! And it gets even better, I disassembled much of the electronics again while I replacing the smoke fan and now that it's back together it's loud but very tinny... Like there's no low end grumble to it. That makes me think it's a bad speaker. Guess I'll have to order one of those when I place my next order with Lionel. Then if that doesn't work I'll bring it to my local Lionel guys

I'd just drop an 8 ohm speaker on it for a test and see if that fixes it.
