It looks like you only get the headlight detail if you purchase the entire shell, which is unavailable.

If you can remove the headlight and post photos, maybe someone can suggest a substitute that might work.

Rick, I am sure the headlight is not part of the boiler casting – it keeps falling off.  I would like to purchase more because it looks like a perfect example of the Pyle National 18” headlight which I would like to use for other engines.  Precision Scale Company has one, however it has a visor and I don’t know how filing off the visor would go.  And I don't know if it comes with a lens.

They are brass so filing is no problem. Some of the ones I use are uncored which means metal has to be removed to insert a bulb or to light number boards. You can make lenses using clear plastic.

This headlight had to be opened up for a lamp.

Neat.  I did find a couple in the Lionel parts list.  I wonder if being a toy train company, if they use the same pats for both S & O.  I also wrote to their parts help people a couple of days ago -- nothing yet.

Pete gave you the answer, PSC casts PRR headlights by the droves,....sounds like you’re beating a dead horse with Lionel,.....most of us that build custom works go straight to PSC for parts .....PSC stands for Precision Scale Parts ,....it’s kinda their game,....here’s a PRR headlight part # 40207 ,....

Hi there harmonyards,

Well, I could sort of make do and go with the Lima, don’t know if it is a PRR standard, but I’m after a Reading Company style.  The Lima is 16” while the one I have my eye on from PSC is the 18” Pyle National.  Unfortunately, it appears to only come with a visor which mans I would have to file the visor off – maybe not a big deal for some, but I have never tried so all I can say is, I don’t know, seems doable.  Also the PSC casting needs to be drilled out for the LED and one has to come up with a lens.  That all seems like a lot of unnecessary work if a ready-made one is available for $6.50 from Lionel.

Did your example come with the shelf?  the shelf doesn't show in the catalog.
