With all the discussions concerning the Lionel N5b has anyone noticed that the two N5 on the bottom of page 68 are in fact N5's, without collision posts, and the correct smokestack location.
I'm not sure of the trucks.

I picked up the new catalog at local toy train dealer today. Did notice that the page is titled "N5/N5B CABOOSE." So that does beg the question is the N5 version an actual N5 which is about 1'8" shorter than a N5b.

Well I recently purchased the Lionel N5b with the yellow coupola and crash posts. I will compare it tomorrow with my car works N5 with No crash posts. Honestly Lionel will doubfully go out of their way to have two similar models that are 1'5" difference in length.
I saw that as well. The PRR car is the first one produced for the PRR back in 1916 or so. Don't know how long the prototype remained that way until collision posts were added. The New Haven car would be correct without the collision posts I believe.
On the next page and also shown in the previous catalog, there is a Boston and Maine version. I think when these cars were built for the B&M they did not have collision posts as built and I am thinking that the B&M did not add them.
I wonder if the new cars without smoke will come with a scale stack installed.

How about illuminated marker lights????? Maybe instead of the smoke unit?????
