I pulled another engine out of its long term slumber and set it up for running on the layout. This was a sort of a refresh/restoration of an engine from the early 2000s scale explosion in 3 rail. I went through the electronics and put Cruise M in it along with GRJ's Chuff Generator and cleaned out the smoke unit. I touched up the weathering a bit. I will leave the rods clean I think, I kinda like the way they look on this engine. Here's some workbench shots showing me cobbling up a drawbar mount for the Kadee 805, which I like a little better than the 740s for engines. Also made a little YouTube for it:

Thx man, I am digging my iPhone 8 Plus. The camera is radical. I sort of hate to admit that I've become an Apple fan. The pacing shots were done with my Atlas F7B pushing a flatcar with the phone propped up using 123 blocks. The jitters are from running over my turnouts. Pretty wild that a person can capture, edit, and upload high res video all from a freakin' phone these days...!?!

Hi NORM,

  The Mohawk I have is the same one you have.  Lionel 6-38053, it came with the brochure and the sounds are great.  I should get the super chuffer in it like you have.  It just makes it look so much better.  I'll put mine on the layout and run it a little later today.  Thanks again for the inspiration to get the engine back on the tracks.

John's Chuff Generator is awesome. I found a 5V power supply floating around in this engine's wiring and can't remember what it was used for, so I repurposed it for the CG. On Lionel's site the first gen Berkshires had a similar wiring diagram but I don't think it had that little power supply. Maybe it was for the markers. At one time I had stripped the smoke unit out of this engine along with all the lighting, just keeping the headlight. I put the smoke unit back in after cleaning it up and restored the ashpan glow. The flickering firebox was run off the original Odyssey board so it didn't get put in this time around now that I have Cruise M in it. I believe all the other L2as Lionel built had 4 chuffs and RS5, and probably smoother cruise. So, just hanging a Kadee on it would be far less work.

Ron, I will look into the NWSL wheels. I upload my videos directly to Youtube from my phone or iPad. Sometimes that takes longer than actually collecting footage and stringing the clips together in iMovie.

  Yes I just got done running my Mohawk, ran and sounded great.  Yes as you stated the original one had only two chuffs per revolution.  That was the only thing I noticed with it along with the smoke output.  When it was going it did smoke great but starting out was a little anemic.  I do like what you did with the cruise M and I might have to do an upgrade on mine.  Thanks again for a neat video along with getting me thinking on improving this great looking and sounding engine.  Keep up the good work. 

WOW, Norm!  Great video and very timely.  I have the 2005 version (6-11114) and have always appreciated the detail and sounds as well as how well it runs. Since I do not run New York Central much, I  had it listed for sale on the forum but removed it after seeing how much better the detail stands out with the weathering.  Although I may never have the nerve to try weathering for fear of destroying, I now know I would be sorry to have sold such a great engine.

Now I need to find an appropriate caboose.  Love the one in your video.  I am guessing it is from a kit?

Thank you for the photos and videos of your work.  As I mentioned to you when I bumped into you at York, your work is such an inspiration to all of us,  especially those like myself who do not possess your modeling skills.
