The Lionel Operating Track Gang appeals to me because it adds nice movement to a layout. Pictured is the current version 6-82018. However the realism is reduced because all 6 figures start and stop at the same time. I was thinking it would be nice to control the figures, or maybe groups of figures, separately. Has anyone disassembled one to find out how it works?
It would be nice to think each figure was controlled electrically. Then I’m sure gunrunnerjohn would have a wonderful electronic solution to activate them independently at random. However I imagine to keep the cost down, this accessory has one motor with gears or bands driving the figures. Then a mechanical solution would be needed to engage/disengage the gears.
Has anyone seen inside one?
