Lionel Parts Sale confirmation problems

Despite their claim to send confirming emails, they haven't done that in years.

Never any confirmation email in my experience over many years. The package just shows up within 2 weeks.

I ordered on the last day. No confirmation email. I did go to my "dashboard" and found my order. I received it last Monday. But I have another issue with this sale...I must have done something wrong when I ordered, I didn't get the 50% off. I ended up paying full price. Anyone know why that may have happened?

I have never received a confirmation email from Lionel for a parts order. I look for the amount charged to my card, and I receive a notice of a package delivery on my USPS Informed Delivery app. The bank info let's me know my order was received, and the USPS let's me know my parts are on the way. Seems to work for me.

Don't recall if I ever received confirmation e-mails in the past, but for the last many years they never have sent one. Lionel's just a tease, I guess......

Parts came, though. 

When I order through the dealer portal, I just get a package at some point in the future, no status emails.  When an order is shipped, I see a tracking number under my order status in the user profile.  Have you checked under your user profile to see if there's a tracking number?

Have you called Lionel to ask them?

Jayhawks. The 50% discount should have been clearly shown at checkout. 

I called Lionel Tuesday about my orders and no conformation email and they told me there was a problem in that system. She did look up the order number and said they had been shipped last week and would be here Wednesday.  Sure enough the parts came yesterday.          j

I found it as I was on the phone with Lionel. Thanks for the reply. First time ordering during that part sale.

Hahaha I called Lionel today because I didn't receive confirmation.  Katie (?) told me that their system that sends out the confirmation emails has had problems for a long time.  She verbally confirmed my email and physical address.  Now I find this thread, it figures  ;-)

Is the sale just once a year? I should have bought a few more pricy things. Guess always next year!

no confirmation because they dont know if they have the parts until it's ready to ship. 

at that point i guess Lionel figures why bother.

True!  It wasn't easy to find, but it's there.  The lady I spoke with on the phone didn't mention this.  Thanks Gramps!!

Go to Lionels website, Click on "MyLionel" and sign in, click on the "Service" tab, then click on "Part Order History" in the left center of the screen. Everything you have ordered in the past from Lionel will be here. Starting with the most recent order.

Other firms tie their inventory to orders and the computer keeps stock on hand at all times.  "AUTOMATICALLY" like magic.    Why is Lionels order system not set up this way ?  Count inventory one time and the computer keeps up from then on. Get in new inventory add it to current and the computer keeps up.  "AUTOMATICALLY" like magic.

How do you know Lionel’s inventory system is not set up this way?

When we were at the warehouse sale, noticed the shelves had stock locations and barcodes like at all other factories so it appears there is a computerized inventory control system.

How do you know Lionel’s inventory system is not set up this way?

Systems that are properly set up, instantly, within a couple seconds, know stock on hand and don't take your order if SOH reaches zero.   Of course Lionel has some type of inventory control but it is not interactive in real time. Or it is not properly maintained.  A lot of companies use outside inventory control for a monthly fee. Too many possibilities to guess, however it is not working the way a good online interactive system works. If it were you would get your online conformation within minutes at most. When in actuality no one is receiving conformation of their order.  That's how I know it is not properly set up.         j

I just did a quick check on LIONEL's parts ordering website and it does provide a default if you try to order more of a particular part than they have (or the system "thinks" they have) on hand:

In my screenshot, I attempted to increase the quantity in my cart (a/k/a "Your Basket") by adjusting the total to 100; and, promptly received the drop down message in the image.

I then repeated the test by inserting in the order box  (using a different order form) a quantity of 100 for the same part used in the first example; and, hitting the "add" button.  The same drop down message immediately appeared (although I did not capture a screenshot of that particular test.)

So, LIONEL's service parts website does have (apparently) the capability of preventing orders for parts in quantities that exceed the stock on hand, and alerting the customer to that fact.

For my purposes, that is an adequate system.
