This topic may appear "a day late and dollar short", or more like a year late since it was roughly a year ago that the Legacy Acela sets were released, however I could not locate a review of the unique Polar Express set on this forum, nor any stand-alone topic that discussed the fact that Lionel made it in the pale (wrong) blue hue. This is surprising given the high cost of the set and add-on cars.

I had mentioned that the colors were off in a separate thread that discussed the Vision Line Reindeer cars, however, and posted a picture (and re-posted below) of a PE Acela car, Reindeer car, and correct colored heavyweight PE car.

While this may very well be a lost cause, I have sent Lionel a detailed letter noting the color discrepancies. I am curious if anyone else contacted Lionel about the PE color discrepancies on the High Speed Acela sets?

We're coming up on a year when the PE Acela sets were released, and while the color differences may not be a warranty issue per se, it is nevertheless a matter that if we have the right to request assistance with. And, while I would prefer to have the darker and correct blue colored high speed PE train engines and cars, the fact they're made in the wrong colors doesn't ruin my enjoyment of them. The fact that I am still paying them off via credit card debt kind of sticks in my craw a bit, however.

If anyone feels the same way, then I encourage you to write to Lionel asap. It wouldn't hurt to include a copy of your sales receipt, too.

A "FWIW" update: I heard back from Lionel customer service, and it appears there's no resolution on the PE Acela color discrepancy (I have a hunch most buyers were either content with the pale blue or they didn't know about the difference as compared with earlier scale PE darker blue cars), however there is potential new shells for the Reindeer cars in the works (from what they said it seems a simple swap via 4-screws though I have not determined the level of difficulty myself).

As of now, this matter is in a stand-by mode. If you have any of the above items and wish to see them corrected in the darker PE blue color scheme (which is the correct color per previous releases and the movie , I suggest you contact Lionel customer service). IMO, it helps this cause if you attach receipt(s) with inquiries.

Paul, it remains a mystery to me as to why PolEx blue is so hard for Lionel to consistently get correct. It’s a roll of the dice with each release. As to the Acela, while it sucks the colors are wrong, at least the whole consist is the same color unlike as is the case with the mistakes to the add-on cars (e.g., RPO and reindeer car).

Please post an update if you hear definitely on new shells for the reindeer car.  If new shells get made, I’ll look for one if they’re still out there (I’ll still need to paint the roof black to match my original set).

I'm in the camp of my PE Acela looks just fine.

It looks fine to me, too. Never mind it's a $2,000+ set that is evidently sold out and was made in the incorrect blue hue. Personally, I would've gone with an black roof in lieu of the wavy snow pattern, but it's a keeper as-is. Once I get my larger diameter track runs finished, I'll go through the recommended maintenance tips and, barring any electronic/mechanical issues, give her a maiden voyage
