Hello everybody,

I am using Lionel post-war ZW Transformers on my layout. I am running Lionel post-war trains, MTH Trains and Lionel TMCC, Legacy trains. For the Lionel I am using a Lionel TPC 300 and a cab 1l controller. 4 MTH I have their controllers. I have some  beginners questions,

1. What is the best way to ensure I am getting the optimum wattage and voltage out of the Transformer? Please suggest tune up ideas so I can get best usage out of it.

2. Should I just dedicate the end handles of the Transformer 4 MTH and Lionel usage to get Optimum wattage and voltage? I have three or four ZW so I have others I can use for accessories, Etc.

3. On the Lionel end of it are my TPC 300s adequate. I have a 38 ft layout and the TPC 300 seems fine so far. I do have an extra one so is there anyway I can wire this to be used also for more power or efficiency?

4. Nothing to do with the Transformer but how important is it to have completely clean track?

Any help appreciated as usual,

 Jerry

1.  See Ken's ZW page that will aid your start at servicing your ZWs.  Remove the ZW top and visually inspect the rollers as you move handles.  Note that all power to the terminals comes off the same coil.  A voltage meter at the A B C D terminals will tell you if one of the pick-up roller circuits needs attention.  Set all at same voltage for the test.  All terminals should read the same voltage.

2.   The outside handles are normally used for engines because they have the whistle controllers.

3.  unknown   (I have no TPCs)

4.  Very.  It's easier to run a track cleaner over it often than scrape of the oily dust goop that prevents electrical contact.
