Lionel Postwar 65 handcar Armature Question...

I got this Lionel postwar 65 handcar not working when I took it apart .. one of the three commuters was unglued.. I was able to reattach it..

How ever, it runs but sometime I have to kick start it to get it going... I notice got pretty warm/hot to the touch when it does run ...

I checked with a ohm meter their is no short..

Being the fact the commuter got detached is it possible the armature windings internal gone bad?
