I just acquired this and have some questions.  Has anyone discovered how to lift the tabs on the trucks to free the wheels without them breaking off?   How about best place to get window inserts?   My set is well worn but the motor is in great shape, just needs brushes.  The worst is that the one post on the bottom piece has broken off.  I have added some photos to help show you what i have.  I am trying to reattach it using JB Weld.   My set has no eunit and no whistle, plus it was painted at some point.  Im trying to decide about painting but would rather just leave it.  The remaining paint polishes up very nicely.A0AE7B58-21E8-4F6D-AAC9-59D7271BE68FAC3C1429-B0F6-409B-803B-97F764D301547847F725-2429-4C67-8CC1-BB3962D9FAAB

Dave, I moved this to the Tinplate forum as it might get a better response there.

How about best place to get window inserts?   .

Im trying to decide about painting but would rather just leave it.

You ALWAYS run the risk of breaking tabs no matter how you lift them.

Window insert can be made from and plastic window box material that is thick enough.  Been doing it for years.

Its a common piece. You can doo what you think best with no worries!
