I'm looking for a set of Lionel pre war passenger cars with the box style couplers. I included a pic of the type I'm looking for. Color not important, just looking for a set of at least 3 complete cars.
Just keep in mind the prewar cars have number plates while the postwar versions have the numbers rubber stamped. Your photo shows that clearly. I'm just pointing it out assuming you would prefer a set of either version and not a mix of the two. Keep an eye out on that auction site and you'll probably find some for a fairly decent price. I sent a couple of loose ones over to Steamer Dave a while back so he could finish up his Black Diamond ish set so I'm tapped out on those for now.
There are several nice sets on eBay if you search for "Lionel Prewar # 600, 601, 602 Lighted Passenger."
Tom
Tom, those are the next higher level of cars versus the 1630/2630/2640/2642 and the postwar 2440 and 6440 shown above. That said, you are correct, look on ebay and they are plentiful. I've purchased many sets in need of work there. Below are a set of 2640/41 cars I repainted long ago.
