Does any one have any Information regarding a Lionel prototype Hi-Cube box car from 1977 ? The car should have been numbered 9609 and been in the Frisco road name. Lionel produced a Frisco Hi Cube numbered 9610 the same year. I heard rumors there was a prototype done but the number was inverted upside down to 6096 but can find nothing anywhere on this. Does it exist? Is there any truth to the rumor or am I chasing a ghost? I have the entire run of the Hi cubes (9600-9611) from 1976 except this ghost. Thank you in advance for any information.

Did some more digging; Found photos from an old listing on E-Bay. Apparently it is owned in Burbank, California and for sale for $450.00+. It has not been relisted. That's a lot of money for a MPC era car even though there may be only one. I have less than a 1/3 of that  invested in the entire run of 11 cars. Guess it will always be my ghost. Lol

Fwif, those mpc cars don't hold a candle to the Atlas O Trainman cars. Also note the 1:1 Frisco had 50' and 86' hy-cubes.... No 40' hy-cubes.

But it does look nice. I like the bold yellow colors of the car. Looks good with the A.T.S.F red, BN green, and the I.C.G Orange.

I have to admit this car was Lionel's first "modern" freight car and it's newest since postwar. It got me hooked on today's modern freight car's and was one of my first type of freight car's to collect...Until Atlas O came along. Then I let them go after comparing the two.
