Okay, so it's a given that I'm also a sucker for Lionel's cast frame FA's. Handsome little machines.

BUT...

I'm also a sucker for Lionel's lowly little stamped frame FA's, too! What can I say?

I like the way all of Lionel's FA's that I've had perform nicely... growl nicely... and smell great while they're doing it!

SO... how 'bout a thread showcasing Lionel's PW FA'?

I'll start with the following from my previous collection that are now long gone... but sorely missed.

Picture2 016

Lesson to self: I ain't NEVER gonna' let the plum crazy ideer take root of selling the PW I'm now re-acquiring.

SO... got pics of Lionel's PW FA's?

Well, then POST 'EM UP!

Andre

Yup, I'm a goner.

Over the years since the last of my PW was sold off... I've sneaked over to The Bay and checked on PW and other traditional 3-rail stuff... or participated in threads here extolling the virtues of PW, or traditional 3-rail in general, etc. I reckon my appreciation (and muffled desire) for it has never truly been out of my system ever since it got in to my system back the 1990s.

Even if nothing ever comes of it (i.e. a permanent layout), this time I've made a promise to myself that I will not sell it off. No, even if a layout idea fizzles, any accumulated 3-rail will remain on the shelves for those times I must have a fix, and if nothing else, it can circle an oval on the kitchen table!

Wow, your Erie set looks mint.

'Ya done good.

I think Lionel's treatment of the Erie scheme (in spite of being simplified) is still one of the best looking schemes for the cast frame FA's.  (Though I like the 2031 Rock Island's, too.)

Sigh. And now a picture of another of my dearly departed brethren...

Say... let me just go ahead and bend over... an' one of you just haul off an' kick me in the hiney.

It would serve me right.

Andre here are a few pics of my FA’s on my Super O postwar train table. The first is the Union Pacific 50th Anniversary 2023 Engine’s. Followed by set #1591 the USMC FA 212 engine which is pulling its consist of USMC vehicles. Both of these are great pullers and have provided me many years of reliable service and enjoyment.

Andre,

I hear you brother...the ones that got away!

Yeah, my Eries are in fantastic shape. Run well, too. Even the horn is healthy.  Something about the stark black with the yellow gold striping that makes these a winner.

Yes, the old postwar FA's are my favorites. I have a set of Erie units, a set of the yellow and gray UP units, and recently acquired set of silver UP units. The original UP set. I bought from my cousin in 1957 for the pricey sum of $15.00. The Eries were from an estate sale, and Hennings cleaned and serviced them for me. The silver units are rough and came from a garage sale. I may send them off to Hennings soon. Love those old PW Alcos though.

The last of my dearly departed: The lowly little Lionel Mop 205's...

Picture2 020

I recall these ran great and smelled wonderful as they ran! (Smell: Ozone... lots of it.)

Going forward with my Lionel FA acquisitions, it would be "luxury" to acquire only horn-equipped Lionel FA's... but then, some of them weren't equipped with horns, such as the 205's.

Too bad they were not painted. Jenks blue, and a MP buzzsaw logo on the nose!

Well... in my thought process is the possibility of "someday" painting a pair of cast frame's like these Kusan examples:

KMT_MopFA

I have this pair of user-painted Lionel cast frame's on the way:

AAsetOfCastFrames

I intend to strip the current paint off the above using 99% isopropanol and repaint them into one of my favorite lines (Frisco) such as these Kusan's:

KMT_Frisco_FA_a

However, just what scheme the above user-painted cast frames end up becoming is still not fully decided upon at this point! (Either the Frisco, or Mop, or perhaps even my own Kansas City & Gulf, or...?)

I guess I must love surprises!
