Did anyone here attend the event? I read in the VL Challenger post on the 3R forum that rumor has it that an S scale Polar Express train will be in the catalog. Just wondering if anyone can confirm? That would be something of interest to me. I'm interested in seeing where Lionel is going. A mid sized steam offering like the Berk and some new passenger cars would be a good step for S IMHO.

Well, that means a lower price point than a full-scale model.  As a starter set, it's going to have to be priced competitively with the O27 set.

Hopefully, it will get some folks interested in S. People gotta start somewhere.

I think we'll still see a scale-tooled Berk in the future.

The gold colored locomotive is a gold-plated Polar Express locomotive for the 3-rail O folks.

Judging by the photo, it looks like Lionel is doing a basic-detailed Berkshire for the S gauge Polar express.  Probably using the Mikado drive mechanism.
