Lionel S gauge power...

AC, just like postwar.

So Lionchief is 18 vac just like Legacy 3 rail, eh? 

The question came up with the new PE. The owner wants more power so a Lionchief transformer does 76 watts...and would probably suffice.

Not all Legacy engines will run on DC or DCC.  Check the owners manual of your engine to make sure.

Right. 

The U33C's Y3's, Challengers and Big Boy aren't programmed for DCC.  Pretty much anything before the SD70's don't have the DCC code.

I have an old ZW model R that my grandpa had many moons ago. Right now I'm just using a railpower dc transformer for my American model locomotives. They at DC. I just bought the legacy setup to run my lionel locomotives sd70 and es44a.c.....Can I use the ZW with the lionel legacy when running my newer lionel locomotives?   Sorry to hi-jack the thread.

Adam: Short answer is your ZW - R should work just fine powering the track your Legacy system operations.

Thanks. Since I'm running 2-rail s scale, I assume the ZW would hook up just like the same way I have the DC 1370 transformer I'm using now? I'm also considering getting a lionel TPC 300 to wire in. My combo would be ZW-R, TPC 300, and the #990 legacy system! That's my goal.
