This has been a funny read, talking about going down golpher holes.  Whether a set has a transformer or remote is now all based on which is easier to loose, and the examples are hilarious.

Meet the right significant other and you will be amazed at what you lose.  Coffee machine filter, stereo remote, tv remote, key fob on key chain, and anything else in the wrong place for 24hrs.  LOL.

To me the issue is about a Train Layout and how you power it and operate it.  To manufactures, they add price point and cost in the equation.  Plain and simple.  G

I concur, if it can be lost my wife will lose it. And i am just as bad. I can lay something down and sometimes i can't find it. A good reason to put things where you will know where they are.

We seem to lose the over-the-door wreath hangers every year.  Every year we buy a new one, and then discover all the old ones together when we take down our Christmas decorations.  That being said, the only train-related thing I've lost is an American Flyer pre-war semaphore mast.  I came across a picture of me around age 5 with it, and haven't seen it since I was around 7.

Regarding technology, I wonder if my Grandfather said the same things to my Dad in the 1930's: "all these new-fangled sets with rheostats!  What'll happen if you lost the rheostat?  In my day we screwed and unscrewed light bulbs!"
